Post Turkey Day

Yesterday at Journey Church, family and friends gathered together (my little family included) for a delicious meal, lots of laughter, and a eventful ending to the night around a bonfire. I think it’s safe to say everyone who came had a great Thanksgiving.

We celebrate many holidays over the course over a year. It can be hard to forget each holiday too - especially if you watch tv or listen to the radio. Every year we commemorate these holidays - unless you’re related to the Grinch. However, sometimes we forget to celebrate the gift of life. And I’m not talking about when a new baby is born or when it’s grandma Susie’s 99th birthday. I mean the gift of a new day. Even the days when the barista got your coffee order wrong or when you’re late for work because you got stuck in a traffic jam. We sometimes forget to find the good in those “everything went wrong today” days.

I am guilty of this myself. I get upset when things don’t go as planned and I tend to enter into the funkiest of moods. But Psalm 118:24 says: “This is the day the Lord has made; We will rejoice and be glad in it.” God has been reminding me lately that each day, no matter what it may bring, is a day that the He has made. That I need to be glad in it! In the worst of days. The boring days. The best days ever. All of them are full of reasons to rejoice, to celebrate.

The word celebrate means “to acknowledge (a significant or happy day or event) with a social gathering or enjoyable activity.” Find a activity that brings you joy. It doesn’t have to be big! Take a walk in the park, binge your favorite show, or eat your fav meal with some friends. Give yourself some time to breathe. Rejoice in the day that the Lord has made for you. Don’t take it for granted. It doesn’t have to be Thanksgiving for us to be thankful.
